Stunning update on Lloyd Kelly emerges following completion of permanent £20m from Newcastle…

Lloyd Kelly was one of just two players added to Newcastle United's first team last summer, with the former Bournemouth man heading to the North East to be reunited with Eddie Howe when his Cherries contract expired.

The left-back failed to carve out a place in Howe's first team, and after just a handful of appearances, he was moved on in the January transfer window.

Bizarrely, it was Italian giants Juventus who saw Kelly to be the answer to their problems, and they swooped with a loan offer which contained an obligation to buy for £20 million at the end of the season.

Paul Mitchell won't be remembered for much when he leaves the club at the end of the month, but securing £20 million for a player we picked up for free just six months prior is definitely one.

Juventus could place Lloyd Kelly straight on the transfer list

It didn't take long for Juventus to start to regret that obligation clause, with Italian media labelling Lloyd Kelly as 'a Sunday League player' and the 'most disastrous signing in recent memory'.

However, Juventus met the criteria to trigger the clause, and as was confirmed by Newcastle's retained list last week, the transfer has now gone through.

However, a report from Italian journalist Giovanni Albanese suggests that it may not last for long, as Kelly is set to be placed on the transfer list at Juventus

This conclusion always felt inevitable

If true, that has to be a huge kick in the gonads for Lloyd Kelly to be dumped by two clubs in a season after turning his back on another club.

Lloyd Kelly moving to a club like Juventus never made sense to us, but given that it put £20 million in Newcastle's bank account, we weren't complaining.

We guess that his outcome always felt pretty inevitable.
