Talks continuing with West Ham over transfer – Salary demand holding up move

Over the past few days, there’s been claims Genoa will look to sign Maxwel Cornet on a permanent basis from West Ham.

The Frenchman did well in his loan stint at the Rossoblu, scoring twice and showing multiple glimpses of his ability in Serie A.

It now seems as if attempts are ongoing to sign him from West Ham. La Repubblica, as relayed by CalcioGenoa, report talks are ongoing between the two clubs for what seems like a permanent transfer.

Genoa are facing difficulties covering Cornet’s wages and that has temporarily put a brake on the move.

The 28-year-old is said to be very happy at the Italian side and would be interested in a stay. Everything now depends on how the two clubs iron out an agreement and if another loan deal can make up for the winger’s high salary.

An exit from the London club would help the ex-Lyon player given how frustrating his time at West Ham has been. His loan stint at Southampton also didn’t go to plan earlier in the 2024/25 season and playing in another league can be a major boost for the Frenchman.
