Newcastle United are no longer thought to have Dominic Calvert-Lewin high on their list of transfer targets. The Magpies pursued the Everton striker last year but the prospect of a deal collapsed amid the Blues hopes for winger Yankuba Minteh to move in the opposite direction.
Calvert-Lewin is currently set to be a free agent from July 1 but a move to St James’ Park, one of several places mooted as possible destinations for the centre-forward, does not appear to be on the cards.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is in the market for a forward with Callum Wilson’s future at the club shrouded in uncertainty. With Champions League football back on the agenda, the Magpies are seeking to strengthen their squad depth and a back-up to main frontman Alexander Isak is considered key.

But the Chronicle, the ECHO’s sister paper, is reporting Calvert-Lewin is not believed to be central to that search with the club starting the summer by looking elsewhere for additional options up top.
The England international was a late substitute in Everton’s final day win at Newcastle and scored a late penalty in the same fixture last season.
He ended the season in the Blues' squad after recovering from a serious hamstring issue suffered in the away win at Brighton & Hove Albion in January.
That setback came just one week after he had ended his goalscoring drought by clinching his first goal under David Moyes in the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton offered Calvert-Lewin a new deal last summer but he did not agree fresh terms and that offer lapsed when new owners The Friedkin Group took over the club.
On Monday, the Blues said they remained in talks with the forward’s representatives over his future, though with just weeks until the expiration of his current deal, the prospect of his departure appears to be growing.
Calvert-Lewin recently said on the High Performance Podcast: "I have to be careful with what I say because I am still contracted to Everton, I have a long history with Everton and a big respect for the club.
"The main thing for me is I want to win, I want to be in a winning environment. After the last three or four seasons it has been about survival.
'When I started my career I wanted to play in the Premier League, play for England a go to major tournaments with England and play in the Champions League.
"I have played in a major tournament for England, I have played in the Premier League, but I haven’t played in the Champions League. There are still things I would like to achieve before my time is done.
"To have the opportunity to decide potentially where that place will be. If it gives me the best opportunity and environment to win and score goals, then that would be the return of me to the England team and playing in the Champions League.
"That has been my driver to play at the highest level possible. My representation of that is the Champions League, World Cups, Euros and getting into that bracket of elite players."
