Man United interested in Serie A defender

The first transfer window of the summer closes act 7pm on Tuesday, before reopening after the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.

This summer’s window has been split into two to allow clubs competing in the tournament to make signings prior to it starting, although all clubs are permitted to sign players at present.

On Monday 16 June the window will reopen once again, before shutting on September 1 as usual.

Several Premier League sides have already made signings so far this summer, including both Chelsea and Manchester City.

City’s rivals Manchester United have also made a signing, adding forward Matheus Cunha to their ranks.

Now, though, it appears that United are eyeing a move for a new central defender.

As per CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are one of four Premier League sides showing interest in Roma defender Evan Ndicka.

The 25-year-old defender impressed for Roma last season, making more than 50 appearances across all competitions.

His performances have attracted interest from four Premier League sides, namely Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

The Ivory Coast international joined Roma from German side Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023 and has since been a regular for the Italian giants, making more than 80 appearances in total.

The report claims that those in charge of Man United’s recruitment could attempt to bolster Ruben Amorim’s defensive options this summer, following their disastrous campaign last season.

United finished 15th in the Premier League table and conceded 54 in the competition last term, and Amorim will be keen to address his side’s defensive frailties.

Ndicka is under contract in the Italian capital until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears that at least one English side could attempt to lure him to the Premier League when the transfer window reopens next week.
