Saints 2025 Minicamp: What to Watch for

The New Orleans Saints 2025 Minicamp is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 - Thursday, June 12, with Tuesday and Wednesday’s practices open to the public for their first glimpse at this year’s rendition of the black & gold. Here are some key things and players we’ll be keeping our eyes on:

A Continued Quarterback Battle

New Orleans is entering the upcoming NFL season with a lot of question marks to sort out. None of those unknowns loom as large as who the starting quarterback will be for the Saints. The Saints have a very young, very inexperienced QB room consisting of Spencer Rattler (2024 fifth-round pick,) Jake Haener (2023 fourth-round pick,) Tyler Shough (2025 second-round pick,) and Hunter Dekkers (2025 undrafted free agent.)

With that being said, Rattler and rookie Shough are clear frontrunners for the job. Both have shown flashes of potential in offseason work, and this should be a situation to monitor throughout the rest of summer and into Training Camp. It is also worth noting that Haener suffered an oblique strain and has missed some time as of late. He is expected to be prepared for camp in July, but that gives Dekkers an opportunity to show his worth for a roster spot.

Finding Alvin Kamara’s Compliment

After a tried and failed attempt to replace the production of Mark Ingram II, Jamaal Williams was released from the Saints in March 2025. He could just never find his footing in New Orleans after a league-leading 17 rushing touchdowns for Detroit in 2022.

The Saints have relied heavily on Alvin Kamara with his speed and route running to open the offense up, but he simply cannot do it out of the backfield alone.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, former LSU Tiger and Kansas City Chief, resigned with New Orleans after being picked up as a free agent late last season. Along with Kendre Miller and sixth-round pick up, rookie Devin Neal, there will be strong competition between the three tailbacks for snaps behind Kamara in head coach Kellen Moore’s new offensive schemes.

Life After Marshon Lattimore

All-Pro cornerback Marshon Lattimore was traded to the Washington Commanders during the past NFL regular season. The CB out of Ohio State was the first-round pick of the Saints incredible 2017 draft class. During his time in New Orleans, Lattimore was also named to four Pro Bowls (2017, 2019-21.) So where does coordinator Brandon Staley and his staff turn to for replacing that type of success?

The Saints have Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry (now wearing No. 4) to hold down the defensive backfield and have to feel good about being in that position. McKinstry was a 2024 draft pick and played in 15 games last season for New Orleans. Taylor was selected in the second-round of 2022 and was used primarily on special teams during his rookie campaign. Since then, he has worked his way up into a starting CB role, locking down many talented wideouts along the way. If McKinstry can improve upon the success of his rookie outing, the Saints could have a really good 1-2 punch at corner.

Rookie Spotlight

New Orleans had nine draft picks for the NFL Draft in April, and they made nine different selections. We are eager to see the work ethic and their potential shine through with the rookies. Meshing more members of the team and being around a veteran presence will be a good opportunity for fans and staff alike to really see who is bought into playing for the Saints.

Some standouts include T- Kelvin Banks Jr., LB- Danny Stutsman, and TE- Moliki Matavao. These players exude excitement. Banks was a highly touted prospect and chosen in the first round for a reason. Stutsman seems to have that kind of disregard for anyone standing between him and the ballcarrier. If he gets the playing time, there is no doubt he could become a fan-favorite of a gritty New Orleans community. Tight End is arguably one of the Saints weakest position groups, but Matavao has size and a lot of it. It should be fun to see him work in redzone situations.
