'Can you imagine?'– Man Utd icon now asked if he could coach one world-class star, he would be'too scared'

Manchester United and England legend David Beckham revealed that he could not see himself “trying to tell” one World Cup winner what to do if he had become a coach.

The 50-year-old former Manchester United superstar called it time on his remarkable football career in 2013 after a brief spell with French side Paris Saint-Germain.

David Beckham rose through the ranks of the United youth academy and became a mainstay in the first-team squad under former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

One of United’s legendary No 7 shirt holders, the former England captain shot to superstardom during his prolific playing career at Old Trafford with United.

Beckham, who played for the likes of LA Galaxy and AC Milan in his illustrious career, was a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous treble-winning United side in 1999.

The United legend was a devastating winger in his prime and Beckham lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League and two FA Cups with United.

Man Utd legend David Beckham’s stance on coaching Inter Miami amid the presence of Barcelona icon Lionel Messi

David Beckham, who is one of Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of ‘92’ success stories, has found success away from football after his time as a player.

The United and England legend has had his own non-football ventures, including his own fragrance and different endorsements and sponsorship deals.

Beckham did not pursue a career in management after his playing career ended, but he has had an involvement in football off the field in a business capacity.

The former United winger is the co-owner and president of MLS outfit Inter Miami, with the club signing Barcelona legend Lionel Messi on a free transfer in 2023.

Beckham played against Lionel Messi in the tail end of his playing career and the ex-England skipper admitted that he couldn’t see himself managing him at Inter Miami.

“I wanted to play with him,” he said on his CBS programme, as per The Daily Mail.

“I didn’t really want to be his coach. I’d be too scared to be his coach. I think in all honesty, trying to tell him what to do. Can you imagine?”

Lionel Messi, who is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time, left Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 before he completed his sensational move to the States.

The 37-year-old Inter Miami captain is under contract with the MLS club until December 2025 and Beckham expects him to sign a new deal with his side.

“I think his heart is in Miami now,” Beckham told Time magazine in May.

“Players these days, they look after themselves more. They’re playing longer. His No 1 passion is obviously his family. His other passion is football.

“As long as he’s happy, he will continue to play as long as he wants. It would be nice if he played another 10 years. I can’t see it. But you never know.”

Messi is widely expected to captain 2022 World Cup champions Argentina for their title defence at the 2026 tournament, which will be held in North America.
