Former Leeds United adviser Nick Hammond has taken up a role with Everton

Everton’s recruitment team has been formally boosted by the appointment of Nick Hammond. The transfer specialist had been expected to reunite with new Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear this summer, continuing the relationship they held at Kinnear’s former club Leeds United.

The ECHO understands Hammond has now started his work as part of the new-look recruitment team at Everton.

The Blues have overhauled their backroom setup this summer.

New owners The Friedkin Group (TFG) opted against extending director of football Kevin Thelwell's stint on Merseyside, paving the way for changes behind the scenes.

Thelwell has taken up a new role as sporting director at Rangers, a job he started last week.

He was followed to Glasgow by Everton’s head of recruitment Dan Purdy, whose decision to leave Finch Farm was a setback for the new model being created under TFG.

Under the new setup, manager David Moyes holds significant influence and will work alongside the likes of Kinnear and Hammond to target and secure transfers during a busy summer.

With the departures of 10 first-team players having already been confirmed, and talks ongoing with Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the scale of the rebuild is immense as the club prepares to move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Against that backdrop, Hammond arrives at Everton with significant experience having held top jobs at West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United, Reading and Celtic, where he was head of footballing operations.

At Leeds, he worked as a consultant with the club after being appointed interim football advisor in 2023.

His responsibilities with the Blues are expected to include a focus on player and trading negotiations and, while his role is on a consultancy basis, there remains the possibility of him receiving an official title given the extent of his involvement.
