Dirk Kuyt will not be returning to Liverpool this summer as Arne Slot’s assistant manager, despite reports to the contrary.
That’s according to his agent, Rob Jansen, [via Sport Nieuws](https://sportnieuws.nl/voetbal/nieuws/dirk-kuijt-ziet-kans-bij-droomclub-in-rook-opgaan-dat-gaat-iemand-anders-worden-2025061010062945723/?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.nl%2F), who has confirmed there will be no return to Liverpool for the former striker on the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast.
“No, it will be a different assistant coach. That would have been great for him. Liverpool’s assistant will be someone else,” he is quoted as saying when asked about the rumour.
Liverpool are on the hunt for a new assistant after Johnny Heitinga left to join Ajax as their new manager earlier this month.
He had been at Anfield since last summer, forming part of the backroom team behind Slot alongside assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff.
The Dutchman had previously been working as an assistant manager to David Moyes at West Ham before his departure from the Hammers last summer.
He earned rave reviews for his work there, and at Liverpool, after previously managing Ajax on a temporary basis following various roles with the Dutch club at youth level. Now he’s returned to the club to take charge fully following Francesco Farioli’s departure.
That’s left a hole for Liverpool to fill, and it has been suggested that various former Liverpool stars, including Kuyt and even Steven Gerrard, could do it. The former can now be ruled out, though, with his agent insisting that there’s nothing to them publicly.
