Buccaneers Minicamp Offers First Glimpse Of Chris Godwin Recovery Timeline

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin and his injured ankle are, by all accounts, trending in the right direction as the franchise thinks he will be ready for Week 1.

However, over the past couple of months, we haven't heard too much about how Godwin is actually traveling in his rehab.

But we might get a good indication of where exactly Chris is in his recovery timeline when minicamp rolls around in a couple of days.

And ESPN's Jenna Laine notes that it will be a key storyline in how much or little Godwin participates in the offseason work.

"Godwin was off to a blistering start last season before the injury in Week 7 ended his season," Laine writes. "So, what will his participation look like? (Will he be on the sideline the whole time? Will he work off to the side with a member of the training staff? Will he do positional drills?)

"General manager Jason Licht has said he expects Godwin to be ready for Week 1 but hasn't gone into detail beyond that. This could be the first time this offseason that we see how he's recovering."

Now, it won't be the end of the world if Godwin is only on the sidelines as the Buccaneers take a cautious approach with their Pro Bowler.

Why? Because the offense still has Mike Evans, Cade Otton, Jalen McMillan, and the newly drafted first-round receiver Emeka Egbuka. So the Buccaneers will be just fine.

That also allows Godwin to go through his rehab slowly and hit all the key markers he needs to in building up for what many hope will be a Week 1 start.

Would Godwin being on the grass catching passes be great at this stage of the offseason? Absolutely.

But what would be even better is Chris suiting up for Week 1.
