Barcelona star Pedri sends cryptic World Cup message following Nations League defeat

The international stage often provides a platform for Barcelona players to shine on. For years, the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and others have done just that. Spain, in particular, has always thrived when Barcelona has delivered the goods.

Even today, the Spanish National team remains heavily connected to Barcelona in terms of mutual players. Just recently, Lamine Yamal dropped a masterclass against France in the UEFA Nations League, and it just goes to show the talent that both Barcelona and Spain currently have.

STUTTGART, GERMANY - JUNE 05: Lamine Yamal of Spain is challenged by Theo Hernandez of France during the UEFA Nations League 2025 semifinal match between Spain and France at Stuttgart Arena on June 05, 2025 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Barcelona midfielder sends a cryptic message

However, they were unfortunately unable to overcome Portugal in the final of the competition. Understandably a difficult defeat, especially considering the fact that Spain looked confident heading into the game. Still, it seems that Spanish hopes have hardly taken a hit at all.

Following the game, Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedri recently posted images on Instagram with the caption:

“1 9 0 7 2 6”

While the message may look cryptic by itself and could easily be mistaken for some random numbers that the player himself only knows, they actually are a reference to the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year, as pointed out by Barca Times. Those numbers refer to the date of the World Cup Final next year, which is set to take place on the 19th of July in 2026.

Yamal and Pedri to lead Spain to the World Cup

This is a clear message from the Spaniard, who looks to be aiming to reach that final with his country next year. Definitely a bold statement by itself, he will have the help of several of his Barcelona teammates heading into that tournament, including the world’s highest-rated player in terms of market value.

Even this season, finally without getting injured for once, Pedri showcased his class. Elite for Barcelona from the start of the season till the very end, he was also masterful for Spain when it came to performing for his country. Even in the recent final against Portugal, he provided an assist and was having a great game before being substituted, after which Spain completely crumbled it seemed just as it happened against France when he went off.
