Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce will reportedly compete with Newcastle United and West Ham United to sign 26-year-old Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier this summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marcus Tavernier is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Bournemouth winger. Meanwhile, Newcastle United and West Ham United are also keen on signing the 26-year-old.
Marcus Tavernier and his career so far
Marcus Tavernier has come leaps and bounds since joining Bournemouth from Middlesbrough in August 2022. A native of Leeds, the player spent his formative years in England, starting his youth career at Newcastle United before joining the academy at Middlesbrough FC in 2013. He spent a decade with Boro before moving to the Vitality Stadium three years ago.
The 26-year-old has not been an undisputed first-choice starter for Bournemouth but has been an asset for the Premier League club in the last three years. Tavernier has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the Cherries while chipping in with 12 goals and 14 assists. Meanwhile, his progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Fenerbahce.
A man in demand
The Bournemouth winger has been on Newcastle United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering the Tyneside outfit did not replace Miguel Almiron when he rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. So, Tavernier has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Marcus Tavernier makes sense. Mohammed Kudus faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium, while Crysencio Summerville has yet to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the East London club. So, Tavernier is an option worth considering, with recent reports pointing to West Ham being in the pole position to land him.
As for Fenerbahce, Dusan Tadic is leaving the club as a free agent, compelling Jose Mourinho to ask for a new winger. So, Tavernier has emerged as a viable target for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish giants competing with Newcastle United and West Ham United for his signature.
Considering Newcastle United can offer UEFA Champions League football, the Magpies may fancy their prospects of signing the Leeds-born winger. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Tavernier.
