Arsenal have been handed a potential boost in their hopes of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer with Manchester United linked with an alternative target.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with Gyokeres this summer as they search for attacking reinforcements. However, they face competition from other teams, including Man United.
Manager Ruben Amorim is reported to be keen on a reunion with his former striker at Old Trafford. United are on the lookout for a striker after missing out on a move for Liam Delap, who has signed for Chelsea.
However, reports in Italy now claim that United are making a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is said to have turned down a big-money move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Gazzetta dello Sport, via SportWitness now claim that the player is instead ‘dreaming’ of a move to United with the Premier League side trying to find a way to complete the deal. It is said that they are looking at possibilities of including players in the move for Osimhen.
The relationship between United and Napoli is also said to be good due to the transfer of Scott McTominay last summer, and discussions over Alejandro Garnacho back in January.
If United decide to continue to pursue a move for Osimhen, then it will make it unlikely that they push on for Gyokeres this summer. The club have already spent £62.5 million on Matheus Cunha and are expected to spend around £60 million on Bryan Mbeumo.
That would leave Arsenal with a free run at Gyokeres over the summer window as they look to add a much-needed fire power to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
