Tottenham‘make final decision’on Bryan Mbeumo transfer as Manchester United confirmation timeline revealed

Tottenham have reportedly made a final decision regarding their potential bid to hijack Manchester United’s efforts to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Manchester United are closing in on their second signing of the summer after confirming the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international is set to complete his £62.5 million move once he returns from international duty, where he will sign a five-year deal with the Reds.

However, Rúben Amorim’s hunt for attacking reinforcements does not stop there, with the club looking increasingly likely to secure Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as the player has made his desire to sign for the Old Trafford outfit clear.

Although United had a bid worth up to £55 million rejected by Brentford last week, talks between the two clubs continue, with Amorim’s side keen to finalise the transfer as soon as possible.

While United looked to be the only side in the running for Mbeumo after Newcastle and Arsenal pulled out once they were informed the 25-year-old wanted to move to Old Trafford, there was a twist last week.

With Tottenham Hotspur, another interested party, set to announce Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their new manager following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, reports suggested that they were looking to reignite their push for Mbeumo after United’s failed bid.

However, a fresh report from MailSport has now detailed that despite Mbeumo’s excellent relationship with Frank, they have chosen to head in a different direction.

It was explained that Tottenham making any significant steps in a deal for Mbeumo is “highly unlikely,” with the club instead looking to strengthen elsewhere this summer.

United’s Mbeumo confirmation timeline explained

With United the only party in club-to-club talks for Mbeumo and the player himself pushing for the move to Manchester, the transfer is becoming a case of when, not if.

Although the 2025 summer transfer window is set to close on Tuesday evening, reopening on Monday, 16 June, due to the inaugural Club World Cup, United will not rush to finalise a bid with Brentford.

Instead, it is thought that discussions will continue with Brentford in the coming days to finalise an agreed-upon transfer fee, which could be submitted once the window reopens next week.

United are reluctant to get into a situation where they have to make bid after bid to try and get a deal over the line, so are working with Brentford to make sure that their next offer will be accepted.
