Manchester United have been active so far in the transfer window, with Ruben Amorim looking to build his squad for a more successful season in 2025/26.
The Portuguese manager has completed a £62.5 million deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha early in the window, but looks set to add more attacking talent to his squad before the end of the summer.
United have made their move for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. The Manchester Evening Newsunderstands that the forward is now a transfer priority for the club after missing out on Liam Delap, who completed a move to Chelsea last week.
The club have seen a bid of £55 million turned down for the Bees, but have reportedly returned with a higher offer in their attempts to complete a deal.
United have been handed a slight worry over a deal for Mbeumo, with Tottenham Hotspur also now linked with an interest. Spurs are closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou with the Brentford boss reportedly keen on taking Mbeumo with him.
However, the Cameroon international is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford having identified the club as his preferred destination. United will be hoping to push on with the transfer over the next few days, but could now have a delay in it being officially completed.
That is due to the summer transfer window officially closing at 7pm on Tuesday, 10 June. There has been a short transfer window earlier than usual to allow clubs to add to their squads for the club World Cup.
Restrictions to how long a transfer window can remain open for means that it has to close for a short period of time before re-opening later this month. Therefore, any deals that are struck following that deadline will not officially be completed until the transfer window re-opens on Monday, June 16.
That will be the case with Mbeumo and United. While the window closes at 7pm, there will be nothing stopping the clubs continuing to work on a deal in the background, just like United did with Cunha before the window opened.
In theory, United could even announce his arrival at the club. But the deal wouldn’t officially go through, and Mbeumo wouldn’t officially be a United player, until June 16.
If a deal is done in time, the forward is expected to join up with the rest of the United squad for the first time when they return for pre-season, following the short tour of Asia in May. The squad usually return around the start of July.
