Rashford‘changes’ demands in attempt to secure Barcelona switch from United

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has reportedly changed his wage demands in order to secure a move to Barcelona.

The 27-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 10 Premier League games for the club.

Villa are said to have had the option to make his transfer permanent for a fee of £40m, but the winger will return to Old Trafford after Unai Emery’s side opted against signing him.

Rashford has been linked with a switch to Barcelona, but reports suggest that the La Liga team are more keen on bringing Luis Diaz to Spain.

However, Sport claim that the Englishman is prepared to lower his salary demands – he earns £315,000 per week – in order to secure a move to the Catalan giants.

Which clubs could Rashford play for?

With the World Cup to come next summer, Rashford will want to make sure that he is guaranteed playing time at his next club to give himself the best chance of making the England squad.

It is difficult to see Rashford getting minutes on the left at Barcelona ahead of Raphinha or on the right ahead of Lamine Yamal, while striker Robert Lewandowski will want to be the starting number nine.

Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in the winger in the past, but it would be surprising if they made a move considering they already boast wingers such as Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

While there have been few credible links to Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga club are said to be in the market for a left-sided attacker, and Rashford’s pace would make him an asset in Germany.

Could Rashford salvage his career at Old Trafford?

United boss Ruben Amorim has been boosted by the arrival of Matheus Cunha, who will almost certainly be stationed in one of two attacking midfield roles behind a central striker.

The Red Devils are also trying to secure the services of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, and should the Bees’ forward arrive at Old Trafford, there may no longer be a place in the XI for Rashford.

Though the Englishman could be fielded as a striker, United are reportedly admirers of Sporting Lisbon centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres, whose signing would severely impact Rashford’s playing time.

There is little hope of the boyhood Manchester United fan of reviving his career at the club, and it would likely be best for all parties if a transfer materialised in the summer.
