“Young midfield” | ExWHUEmployee | West Ham transfer strategy

**West Ham are focusing on bringing in younger players where possible to revamp Graham Potters squad this summer, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.**

As the first 10-day opening of the transfer window draws to a close today, West Ham continue to push the message that the key at present is to sell players ahead of spending on what is considered a hugely important period for the club, as the club looks to build the squad to align with the vision of Potter.

Reporting exclusively on The West Ham Way Podcast, club insider ExWHUEmployee provided an update on the current state of play, with a clear frustration at present with the message being conveyed by the club.

“I spoke to a top source when I enquired on the progress of transfers so far, with the response being: ‘No. Until we sell we can’t buy under FFP and the Paqueta situation makes things worse. But we are in talks with 2-3 players’”, stated Ex.

“Like many I am frustrated with the message with regards to finances, but that is what the club are continuing to say. So, that appears to be the case of where we are at the moment.”

Ex also provided an update on the continued links to the club signing Josh Brownhill on a free transfer, with reports in the media last week suggesting a deal was imminent.

“We reported 3 months ago that the club have an interest in the Burnley captain, with the player available on a free following the expiration of his deal with Scott Parkers newly promoted side.

“Although there still remains an interest and things can change, reports saying its close appear off the mark.

“We understand that Potter and Macaulay feel they have better options as things stand and we also have younger midfielders from our Academy set to challenge for a position in the squad this season.

“It appears our focus is more in younger players from the Championship, with Hayden Hackney a player of interest, as we have reported previously. The likes of Freddie Potts, George Earthy and Lewsis Orford are players Potter wants to assess when we return for pre-season.”
