Manchester City could be about to land millions after £42m Chelsea development

The 2025 summer transfer window has been a busy one for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola entered the current transfer market looking to sign four to five new players, and the legendary coach has already hit that mark.

Man City completed the signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri on Monday, while the Premier League club have deals in place to bring in Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and Rayan Cherki from Lyon, as Guardiola wanted all three in his squad before travelling to America for the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Manchester club will also see several outgoings, but in addition to this, sell-on clauses in the contracts of former players may prove profitable, as City could be about to land millions from a £42m Chelsea bid.

Chelsea submit £42m bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have been keen to add a new winger to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and it seems that the West London club have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have submitted a new €50m (£42m) bid for Gittens on Tuesday after their original €35m (£29.5m) bid was rejected by the Bundesliga club.

The transfer journalist states that Chelsea will try to get the deal done before Tuesday’s deadline; however, they will keep negotiating for the 20-year-old, should they fail to come to an agreement in time.

Gittens left Man City in 2020 to join Dortmund, and as part of the deal, the Premier League club included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the winger’s contract.

Therefore, the Manchester club could be about to receive €5m (£4m) from the transfer of Gittens, should Chelsea get the deal done, which will be beneficial in the era of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Marcus Bettinelli signs his Manchester City contract

Scott Carson will leave Man City at the end of this month, and as a result, the Manchester club needed a third-choice goalkeeper to replace the Englishman.

Marcus Bettinelli has arrived from Chelsea to replace the 39-year-old, and Man City have announced the signing of the goalkeeper on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old has spent the last four years at Stamford Bridge, and the Englishman’s role at the Etihad Stadium will be to support City’s other goalkeepers while playing a key role on the training ground.

It remains to be seen what happens with the goalkeeper position at Man City throughout the rest of the summer, as Ederson’s future remains up in the air.
