The summer transfer window continues to deliver blockbuster moves at a relentless pace, with young English talent commanding premium fees across Europe.
Borussia Dortmund have once again demonstrated their knack for identifying future superstars, securing another exciting prospect.
The Bundesliga giants’ latest acquisition comes as a painful reminder to Premier League clubs of their dwindling dominance in the youth market.

Manchester United, in particular, will be kicking themselves after failing to act on their reported interest in one of England’s most promising midfield talents.
In a deal that could eventually reach £32 million, 19-year-old Jobe Bellingham has completed his move from Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund, signing a five-year contract with the German club.
The transfer sees the England U21 international follow in the footsteps of his older brother Jude, who became a global superstar during his three-year stint at Signal Iduna Park before joining Real Madrid.
Dortmund confirmed the signing on social media, announcing: “Welcome to Dortmund, Jobe! The 19-year-old England U21 international joins on a five-year deal and will wear number 77 at the FIFA Club World Cup.”
For Manchester United, this represents a significant missed opportunity.
The Red Devils had been monitoring Bellingham’s progress at Sunderland, where he became the flagbearer for their policy of investing in young talent.

His £27.8 million initial fee (with £4.2 million in add-ons) – a club-record sale for the Black Cats – demonstrates the premium placed on homegrown talent. United’s hesitation has now allowed Dortmund to swoop in, just as they did with Jude in 2020.
Bellingham’s emotional farewell to Sunderland, posted on Instagram, highlighted his rapid development: “You welcomed me with open arms as a kid leaving home for the first time… I hope that I have made you proud along the way, and in return you have made me the player that has reached the heights I find myself at today.”
His pivotal role in Sunderland’s Championship play-off final victory last season showcased the maturity beyond his years that made him such an attractive prospect.
With Dortmund negotiating a 15% sell-on clause, Sunderland could profit handsomely if Jobe Bellingham follows his brother’s trajectory.
Meanwhile, United’s failure to secure the midfielder raises further questions about their recruitment strategy under INEOS.
As Ruben Amorim seeks to rebuild his midfield, the club’s inability to act decisively for one of England’s brightest talents will sting – especially given their well-documented interest.
