Chelsea submit €50m proposal to sign English star after initial bid rejection: Reports

close

Chelsea have reportedly submitted another bid to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens in a bid to take him to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup. Gittens has been on the radar of the west London outfit for the past couple of months, but both clubs have yet to reach an agreement regarding the transfer of the player.

A recent report from Sky Sports claimed Chelsea proposed an initial offer of €35 million for the 20-year-old, but it was rejected as it didn’t meet Dortmund’s asking price of around €50-60 million.

The 2025 Club World Cup will commence this Saturday, June 14, but the player transfer deadline for clubs participating in the tournament will end today. To that end, the Blues have made an improved bid for the Englishman.

According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea have submitted a €50 million proposal to Borussia Dortmund after their initial bid was rejected. The expectation is that the Conference League champions will get the deal done before the end of today.

However, if nothing materializes, they will continue with the negotiations after the transfer deadline of the Club World Cup.

Chelsea’s urgent interest in Gittens seems to be prompted by the impending departure of Jadon Sancho this summer.

The winger moved to Stamford Bridge on loan last summer, with the deal including an obligation to buy. However, the player refused to budge on his £300,000 per week salary demands, which forced the west London club to pull out of a transfer.

Gittens made 48 appearances for Dortmund last season and registered 17 goal contributions. His purple patch in the just-concluded season came between November and January, in which he scored or assisted in six out of seven games.

At the age of 20, the player will be one for the future for the Blues. Besides, Chelsea has favored potentials over already-made signings of late.

Bundesliga clubs interested in Chelsea loanee – Reports

Blues striker Armando Broja, who is currently on loan, is reportedly attracting interest from the Bundesliga. Broja grew through the ranks at Chelsea but was loaned to Fulham early in 2024 after he found game time hard to come by.

After his stint at Craven Cottage, he made another loan move to Everton last summer, which will come to an end at the end of this month.

According to Sky Germany, Armando Broja is on the radar of many Bundesliga teams, but RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg are the two clubs with the most interest in the 23-year-old. His price valuation is said to be €20 million.

While the Toffees have an obligation to buy on his loan deal, it is unlikely that they will take that up for a player who scored zero goals in 10 Premier League appearances last season.
