European giants immediately reject second bid from Chelsea for star forward: Reports

close

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly rejected Chelsea's second approach for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. As reported by German journalist Florian Plettenberg via Absolute Chelsea, the Blues' offer was worth €50 million for the English youngster.

Jamie Gittens has been a player in demand for a while now and has been linked with a move to Chelsea. Clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal have also reportedly tracked the 20-year-old in recent months.

Gittens has made a name for himself in Germany with Borussia Dortmund since joining the German side in 2020. He made his debut for the BVB in 2022 and has made 106 appearances for the club so far.

The England under-21 international has been particularly impressive this season having scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 48 appearances. Gittens is reportedly keen on returning to England and wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

The youngster is capable of playing on either flank and boasts exceptional pace and flair. He has also been used as a number ten at Borussia Dortmund while occasionally slotting in at number nine.

Chelsea have already made their first signing of the summer in the form of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for just £30 million. They did not opt to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United at the end of his loan spell and are reportedly eyeing Gittens as his replacement.

Emmanuel Petit urges Chelsea to bolster on key area

Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the Blues to bolster their wide ranks. The Frenchman has claimed that the addition of Liam Delap does not solve their main problem.

Petit has asked the west London giants to sign solid wingers if they want to compete with the top clubs. He has claimed that their wingers do not score or assist enough, which puts pressure on Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. He said, via Metro:

"I don’t think Liam Delap will be the solution. If you look at the top teams, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and their wingers, those players make the difference all the time. Most people are focusing on the number nine at Chelsea but for me the biggest problem is the wingers."

Petit added:

"They are not bringing what you need to compete against the big teams in Europe and the Premier League. They need to get a lot more assists and goals as well and they have to be a bigger danger on the pitch. The way Chelsea play, if you don’t have those wingers carrying danger all the time with the ball and putting defenders under pressure, then forget it. You will always be focusing on the striker but the striker depends on the wingers as well."

Cole Palmer has been Chelsea's main man since joining the Blues from Manchester City in 2023. He has scored 40 goals and provided 27 assists in 91 appearances for the Blues till date.
