Kings Reportedly Interested in Trading for Cavaliers Star

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings had drastically different 2024-25 seasons.

The Cavaliers won 64 games and were the No. 1 seed in the East, while the Kings won only 40 games and were the 10th seed in the West.

Sacramento lost the 9-10 play-in game to the Dallas Mavericks and missed the playoffs this year for the second straight season.

Meanwhile, Cleveland swept the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the conference semifinals in five games.

The Cavaliers haven't advanced past the second round of the postseason since acquiring Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in 2022. Many believe Cleveland's front office needs to make changes to the roster this offseason.

Could the Kings and Cavaliers make a trade with each other this offseason? It's possible, as according to Grant Afseth of RG, Sacramento is interested in trading for Cleveland starting point guard Darius Garland.

“The Sacramento Kings have identified Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland as a trade target as they seek to address the team’s vacancy at lead guard this offseason, multiple league sources told RG,” Afseth wrote. “Sacramento is motivated to find a long-term solution at point guard after trading De’Aaron Fox in February.”

Garland had surgery Monday to repair the left big toe injury that troubled him during the 2025 postseason. The two-time All-Star is expected to miss four to five months.

According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Garland could miss the first 10 games of next season. The Vanderbilt product averaged 20.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists for the Cavaliers this season.

Garland will make $39.4 million next season. The guard, who has spent his entire career in Cleveland, has career averages of 18.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists.
