The Man Utd star who blew his chance of playing at the 2025 Club World Cup

Manchester United will not compete in the new Club World Cup or any European football next season.

The summer transfer window opened early this year to fit around the newly-formatted Club World Cup competition organised by Fifa.

Manchester United’s rivals will compete for a £775m prize pool in the Club World Cup, with Chelsea and Manchester City being the two competitors from English football.

The defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final means United will have no European football next season and are no closer to qualifying for the Club World Cup in future years.

Given the huge financial rewards on offer, Ineos will be keen for United to get into the competition further down the line.

Jadon Sancho has ruined his chance to play in Club World Cup

Ineos must have felt they had finally offloaded Jadon Sancho last summer when he completed a loan deal to Chelsea with a £25m buy option.

However, fans later learned that there was a £5m penalty clause in Sancho’s deal that Chelsea could trigger to return him to Manchester. After talks over personal terms stalled, Sancho’s move to Chelsea collapsed and now a new buyer must be found this summer.

Had Sancho completed his move to Chelsea as planned, he would have a busy summer ahead of him with the Blues set to compete in the inaugural Club World Cup.

The tournament is being hosted in the United States and Chelsea will be one of 32 teams competing in the new format.

As for United, players are set to return to Carrington ahead of the first pre-season clash of the summer against Leeds United on July 19th.

Ruben Amorim has set strict deadlines for pre-season, but it seems extremely unlikely that Sancho will be involved.

Ineos working on finding Jadon Sancho solution

There is no way back for Sancho at United following his “freedom” remark made under Marcus Rashford’s post.

One option is for Ineos to terminate Sancho’s contract, but it would come at a huge cost and bite into the summer budget.

Instead, it is down to Ineos and Sancho to find a new club this summer and it seems several clubs have begun to show interest.

Borussia Dortmund have made contact over Sancho, while Premier League club West Ham have been linked to Sancho.

Reports have also tipped Sancho to join Villarreal following their qualification to the Champions League.

United will look to recoup around £25m for Sancho this summer after offering the same price to Chelsea after his loan spell.
