Terry McLaurin is not attending the Washington Commanders' mandatory minicamp as frustrations grow over a new deal that hasn't arrived. However, further concerns among the fan base were alleviated with two other prominent figures who are expected to make a lasting contribution in 2025.
McLaurin is reportedly unhappy with the lack of progress made and is letting his actions speak for themselves. Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and cornerback Marshon Lattimore also skipped voluntary OTAs. Some thought this might be contract-related, but that's not the case.
According to Jeremy Fowler from ESPN, both Lattimore and Tunsil will be present for Washington's mandatory minicamp. This indicates the duo is willing to let things play out with two years remaining on their respective deals. That'll be a big relief for general manager Adam Peters, allowing him to focus firmly on McLaurin's contract in pursuit of reaching a mutually beneficial resolution.
Commanders will benefit greatly from Laremy Tunsil and Marshon Lattimore at mandatory minicamp
Lattimore and Tunsil caused a stir when they stayed away from the facility over voluntary workouts. This is a method they've adopted over recent years elsewhere, so it shouldn't have come as a great shock. It would have been nice to have them around, but they're here now.
That's the main thing.
While some thought Lattimore's absence sent the wrong message after his underwhelming campaign with injury complications attached, it's all part of his process. Being around from here on out highlights his commitment to the cause and his eagerness to silence some increasing doubters.
Tunsil's presence is equally, if not more, important. There are a lot of moving parts on Washington's offensive line this offseason. Only starting center Tyler Biadasz could be in the same spot when Week 1 against the New York Giants rolls around, so molding this revamped group into a cohesive unit is critical. The former Ole Miss standout is an elite blindside enforcer. That will count for nothing if he isn't on the same page with his new teammates.
Any fans who were restless about Lattimore and Tunsil's no-show at OTAs lingering any longer should be calm. They are ready to work and meet expectations. And if they perform up to their previous form, the Commanders will be in tremendous shape next season and potentially beyond.
That's not the case with McLaurin with tensions seemingly building, but there's not much to cause panic with that situation either. Time is on the Commanders' side for now. Until something gets rubber-stamped, having Tunsil and Lattimore bought in is a sound security blanket.
