Transfer to Chelsea may be back on before deadline – Media briefing cancelled

Jamie Gittens’ move to Chelsea may be back on before tonight’s Club World Cup deadline, with a Borussia Dortmund media briefing cancellation hinting at progress.

[That’s according to Ruhr Nachrichten](https://www.ruhrnachrichten.de/bvb/bvb-sagt-kehl-medienrunde-kurzfristig-ab-gittens-blitzwechsel-zum-fc-chelsea-moeglich-w1042405-2001689996/), who report that Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl has scrapped a planned appearance because a ‘quick transfer’ to Chelsea could be on the cards for Gittens.

Chelsea have already seen two bids rejected for the forward. The first of these was worth €35m, before then being upped to €50m. That second bid was rejected, with reports in Germany stating that Dortmund want €65m for their man and told Chelsea as much.

That appeared to put an end to any hope of Chelsea securing Gittens before tonight’s deadline to register new players for the Club World Cup.

Ruhr Nachrichten revive the matter, though, stating that Dortmund have cancelled a media briefing with sporting director Sebastien Kehl at short notice. This, according to them, is because a ‘quick transfer’ to Chelsea could be on the cards for Gittens.

They say that a spectacular last-minute agreement is still possible with the Blues, as negotiations are heating up behind the scenes. The 20-year-old needs to be signed before tonight and a meeting with Kehl, scheduled for 5pm, has now been cancelled at short notice by press spokesman Sven Westerschulze.

This would suggest Kehl has pressing business elsewhere, namely Gittens, and work is being done to get the deal done rapidly.
