Man Utd considering£9m release clause for player Ruud van Nistelrooy says is the'complete package'- Journalist

Manchester United are looking to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s midfield this summer without breaking the bank.

So far this summer, it has been made crystal clear that the attack will be the priority for Manchester United.

With goalscoring proving to be the biggest issue at the club throughout the 2024-25 campaign, Ruben Amorim could end up with a brand new front three, including Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Viktor Gyokeres.

However, other positions are also needed, including the midfield.

United are interested in signing Atalanta’s Ederson with a new asking price of £33.7m looking tempting. There is an expectation that Sekou Kone could step up into the first team for United after impressing on the post-season tour.

Young midfielders like Chris Rigg have also been linked, but Ineos is also looking into budget-friendly options.

Manchester United now considering Wilfred Ndidi swoop

If budget-friendly is what Ineos wants, then there could be bargains to be found in the teams that were relegated to the Championship.

Now, United have been linked with one of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s players at Leicester City, who is available on a bargain.

This has been claimed by journalist Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking on The United Stand about the latest with transfer plans at Old Trafford, with Wilfred Ndidi mentioned.

Jacobs explains that after Leicester’s relegation, Ndidi is available for just £9m with the relegation clause that was in his contract. This has placed the Nigerian on the radar of United for a move this summer, seeing him as a strong squad player to have.

United will face competition from Everton and Al-Ahli in order to secure the signing of the 38-year-old.

This isn’t the first time that Ndidi has been an option within Carrington, with the midfielder being heavily linked to United back in 2020, 2019, and 2018. Amid the links in 2018, Ndidi admitted he was flattered.

What Ruud van Nistelrooy has said about Wilfred Ndidi

Ndidi is one of the best players at Leicester’s disposal, which means that after another relegation, he was always likely to have suitors and will likely be keen to make the move.

Speaking with the press, as quoted by BBC Sport, Van Nistelrooy has been full of praise for Ndidi.

“It starts with his personality, which is excellent. Then it is his leadership and his playing capabilities. He has an enormous reach on the pitch, on and off the ball. The complete package of him as a character and a player has lifted the team.”

Losing Ndidi will be a real blow for Leicester and would weaken their chances of bouncing right back next season; however, if Van Nistelrooy remains, perhaps United can sweeten the deal with a loan for Toby Collyer.

Van Nistelrooy’s future remains unclear, which will also see Ndidi keen to leave due to the uncertainty.
