Liverpool hold talks to sign player that just rejected£25.3m per season salary offer

Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Victor Osimhen as the Reds look for a replacement for Darwin Nunez amid strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal is seriously interested in signing Nunez but unless they get it done today, their chance to sign the 25-year-old may be gone by the time the FIFA Club World Cup is over.

Osimhen was one of the striker l-Hilal want to sign but the Nigerian rejected their €30m (£25.3m) per season salary offer.

Fabrizio Romano reports: “VictorOsimhen deal remains off with Al Hilal since Sunday as no contacts took place in the last 24 hours.

“Osimhen will consider all his options available to leave Napoli with Galatasaray still keen, race open again.”

New claim suggests Liverpool have been in contact with Victor Osimhen

According to TBR Football correspondent Graeme Bailey, Osimhen and his entourage “held talks” with Liverpool and Manchester United last month but Chelsea “have not progressed with their interest.”

Osimhen’s future at Napoli is non-existent with both parties desperate to find an arrangement that brings their time together to an end and Liverpool are an option amid a breakdown in negotiations between Osimhen and clubs from Saudi Arabia.

That said, Bailey did add: “It’s understood that the Pro League remain keen and they could yet return for Osimhen later in the summer.”

Osimhen reportedly favours a move to England over all others with “a move to the Premier League emerging as a clear preference.”

Napoli are ready to sell and are happy to accept around £50m for Osimhen which would likely be covered by selling Darwin Nunez if Liverpool are serious about signing the 26-year-old.

Osimhen would guarantee goals for Liverpool

While there are a lot of reported question marks surrounding Osimhen’s attitude and coachability, there is no denying that the Nigerian forward is one of the very best in the business.

This season, he scored 37 goals and assisted eight for Galatasaray and while the Turkish Super Lig might not be the highest quality division in Europe, he did score 76 goals and assist 19 in 133 games for Napoli.

If Liverpool were to sign him, it seems frightening to imagine Florian Wirtz, Osimhen and Mo Salah working together in attack.

That said, time will tell if this is a tranfer that has legs or just part of silly season.
