Hannah Hampton is currently the undisputed number one goalkeeper for Chelsea. With Zecira Musovic departing the club and Becky Spencer’s loan spell coming to an end, Chelsea made it a priority to sign a new goalkeeper: Livia Peng. The Swiss shot-stopper, who “dreamed of playing for Chelsea,” has signed a contract with the Blues until 2029.
Peng debuted for FC Zurich at 17, playing in the Women’s Champions League and becoming a regular in 2019. Three years later, she joined BK Häcken, was loaned to Levante for five appearances, and signed with Werder Bremen in 2023 and quickly became their first-choice goalkeeper.
Competition for Hannah Hampton
Peng was under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2026, but in a 2024 interview, she revealed her ambitions: “My big dream is to go to England someday. I would love to play for Chelsea FC, which has been my dream club since childhood.”
Peng is considered a young and promising talent. She has made 41 Bundesliga appearances and featured in the DFB-Pokal final against Bayern Munich. During the 2024/25 season, she earned a spot in Werder Bremen’s starting XI, starting all but one match, as the team finished seventh in the league table.
What Peng has to say
“It feels so good to be here. When I was 10, I dreamed of playing for Chelsea. Now, my childhood dream has come true and it’s so exciting. I’m really happy to join the Chelsea family and get started. It’s such a big club. Chelsea want to win titles and so do I. We’re a good match. I’m hungry to win here.”
On the international stage, Peng was first called up to the Swiss senior team in 2020 and was part of the squads for UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
