The Vikings had him in a quarterback competition with Sam Darnold last preseason, but Darnold won the job by default because McCarthy tore his meniscus during preseason. Minnesota finished with a 14-3 record in 2024. In 2025, they will look to get back to the playoffs. Darnold is no longer with the team after signing a new deal with the Seattle Seahawks. One of the biggest stories for the Vikings out of mandatory minicamp and training camp will be how will McCarthy look leading up to the 2025 NFL season.

Former NFL wide receiver James Jones was on The Facility on FS1 on Tuesday morning to talk about the Vikings quarterback. Jones was debating with some other people if the Vikings are going to regret not signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Jones said,
“You drafted J.J. at No.10. Don’t let Rodgers stunt your confidence.”
There were talks about Rodgers coming to Minnesota before he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. When he was released from the New York Jets, it was a big story in the NFL about whether or not Rodgers would sign with Minnesota because his former teammate quarterback Brett Favre used to play for the Green Bay Packers, the Jets, and the Vikings as well.
Well, that didn’t turn out to be the case. Minnesota was not interested in signing Rodgers from the start. Despite not being interested in him, the Vikings front office is 100 percent on board with McCarthy. This is a football team that will have Super Bowl expectations entering the 2025 NFL season.
