Matchday Memories: On This World Cup Day 2006 – Sky Blue Trio Make Their Mark

Stern & Chris v England 2006

Recent CCFPA recruit Chris came to Micky Adams’ Sky Blues immediately after this World Cup in August 2006 from Port Vale for more than £300k. The midfielder had scored nine goals in his 91 appearances for League One Vale. He stayed for three Championship seasons with the Sky Blues including loan spells at both St Mirren (nine games) and Carlisle United (two outings). Hampered by a hamstring injury he ended up making 33 Sky Blues appearances netting twice before following Micky to Brighton in January 2009.

Chris sports his CCFPA tie

He quickly sought to get himself back on track in the USA from May 2009 with both LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew before returning in January 2013 for his swansong to first club League Two Port Vale. With the Vale he tasted promotion in his first season (once more under now fellow CCFPA member Micky Adams) and following another injury left the club at the end of the 2015-16 season having netted eight times in his 85 outings for the Potteries club. After an abortive trial at Northampton Town (then managed by another CCFPA member Rob Page) from September 2019 Chris got half a season with non league Kidsgrove Athletic before finally hanging up his boots in January 2017. Though born in Stafford Chris was eligible to play for Trinidad & Tobago and ended up with 44 caps between 2005-13 netting four times.
