Darwin Nunez is surely finished at Liverpool after the latest transfer news to emerge from Anfield - opinion

Liverpool are set for a summer of change this season, with moves already being made for some of their players.

Arne Slot has already welcomed Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, and he also looks set to bring Florian Wirtz in over the next couple of weeks.

The additions of Frimpong and Wirtz would already be a lot of change at Liverpool compared to previous seasons, but with the amount of rumours that have started to circulate, more is likely on its way.

Liverpool have already been approached for Luis Diaz, and the future of others such as Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott also seem to be in the balance.

However, it’s the future of Darwin Nunez which seems to be the thing dominating most headlines over the last couple of weeks.

Darwin Nunez is now ‘open’ to making the move to Al-Hilal

Saudi Pro League clubs have been long-linked with Nunez, and now, it feels like the attacker could be finished at Liverpool.

As per a new report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna via his personal X account, Nunez is now ‘open’ to making a move to Al-Hilal.

And, with their move for Victor Osimhen now off the table, it feels like all roads are leading to Nunez making the switch.

“Darwin Núñez is open to join Al-Hilal,” he wrote.

“First contact established in the recent hours with his entourage, still waiting to an official offer.”

Liverpool could sign Viktor Gyokeres with the money earned from Darwin Nunez’s sale

One area of Liverpool’s team that needs strengthening ahead of the 2025-26 season is their striker.

Although players such as Cody Gakpo and Diaz have done a more than solid job of filling in, it would be better for everyone involved if the Reds bagged themselves a regular-scoring number nine.

Mohamed Salah is unlikely to put in similar numbers to what he has this season again, and without those contributions, Liverpool would have been nowhere near the top of the table.

Numerous names, such as Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, have been linked with an Anfield switch, but it feels like Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres would be a much safer bet.

The Sweden international has been one of the most in-form strikers across the world this season, and the fact that he’s available for a fee of £60million this summer should be more than enough of an incentive for Liverpool to make their move.

Indeed, Manchester United are the ones leading the race for his signing at the moment, but if Liverpool end up getting rid of Nunez for a hefty chunk of change, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t go for Gyokeres.

That is, especially since he’s already had plenty of English football experience and is still just 27 years old.
