With Alisson Becker the undisputed first choice in goal for Liverpool Football Club and the arrival of Georgian rising star Giorgi Mamardashvili and now Hungarian youngster Armin Pecsi this summer, the Reds have a sudden glut of goalkeepers.
That has helped with Caoimhin Kelleher securing a permanent move to Brentford as the former Liverpool number two seeks a starting job. It is also likely to lead to a departure for 23-year-old Czech third-choice Vítězslav Jaroš, himself in need of development minutes.
Now, the chatter out of the Netherlands has Ajax and new manager John Heitenga—until recently the man who was Arne Slot’s assistant at Liverpool—targeting Jaroš on loan for the upcoming season as the Dutch club seek a starter between the sticks.
Before a loan is sanctioned, though, expectation from the Liverpool end will be to get Jaroš on a new contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer. Lille in France have also been linked with the soptter, but the Ligue 1 side do not appear to need a starter.
At Ajax, Remko Pasveer was starter in goal last season, but the Dutch keeper is now 41 years of age while backup Matheus Magalhães is returning to SC Braga after spending 2024-25 on loan with at Eredivisie club. Goalkeeper, then, is a clear need.
A clear need and, with Heitenga now in charge, the Liverpool connection could make sense for all involved, giving the Ajax manager a player he trusts, Liverpool a coach they trust to give Jaroš minutes, and the player a shot at the regular playing time he needs.
