Despite rumours of a potential move to Manchester United, Gianluigi Donnarumma has confirmed his intention to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.
The goalkeeper, who played a pivotal role in Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory and subsequent treble this season, is under contract with the French club until the summer of 2026. However, uncertainty surrounding his future at Parc des Princes has sparked interest from several top-tier clubs.
Among these is United, who are reportedly eager to replace their current keeper, Andre Onana. The Cameroon international had a disappointing season, managing only nine clean sheets in the Premier League.
The Manchester Evening News understands that Ruben Amorim wants a new goalkeeper for his first full season in charge at United, but the club have no plans to sign one unless Onana leaves.
Onana wants to stay at United, but that has not stopped the club being linked with other goalkeepers during the off-season. In addition to his treble-winning campaign with PSG, Donnarumma was also named player of the tournament as Italy triumphed in Euro 2020.
With just a year remaining on his contract, clubs across Europe were hoping to take advantage of the situation with a bold approach. Both United and Manchester City were linked to the player, with L'Equipe suggesting that he had discussed a Premier League move with his international teammates.
However, Donnarumma has now affirmed his wish to stay in Paris, predicting few hurdles in the negotiation of a new contract.
"My priority is to stay at PSG, I don't think there will be any problems in the negotiations," Donnarumma shared with Sky Sports Italia following Italy's victory over Moldova on Monday night. "We're a great team."
Talks between Donnarumma's agents and PSG have been ongoing for several months. The Italian shot-stopper joined the French giants from AC Milan four years ago, but recent reports earlier this week cast doubt over whether a new deal would materialise.
L'Equipe had suggested that PSG presented a final 'take it or leave it' offer to Donnarumma, which included a pay cut. Yet, the player himself now indicates that the contract discussions should encounter minimal hurdles.
Donnarumma's representative has dismissed any speculation about a return to Serie A, despite Napoli being mentioned as a potential suitor. Raiola is instead concentrating on finalising terms with PSG for his client.
"It's pure fantasy. I've an excellent relationship with Director Giovanni Manna at [Napoli], but we've never discussed Gigio," Raiola clarified on Radio CRC as reported by Calciomercato.
"It's an obvious question; many would like him, but only a few can afford him. He feels good in Paris, we're at the European champion club, so we have no complaints.
"We are working on a renewal. I have never ruled out interest from the top Italian clubs, but there has never been a negotiation, let's see.
"He is still young, I have to squeeze him for at least another 10 years. At the moment, however, it is very difficult to see Donnarumma in the Italian championship, I'm not just talking about numbers but also about the sporting project.
"In Italy, beyond Inter who reached the Champions League final, there are Milan and Juve who are struggling, they are in the process of reorganizing: these factors are fundamental."
