Spurs aren’t just wanting to bring Thomas Frank to north London from Premier League rivals Brentford.
Postecoglou was sacked by Spurs last week with the Europa League triumph not enough for a dismal Premier League campaign to be forgiven. Several names had been linked with taking over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but it is now widely reported that it will be Frank who takes the hotseat.
The 51-year-old has cultivated a reputation as one of the best managers around over his seven years at Brentford. Only Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver have been in their positions longer.
Tottenham Hotspur in ‘complicated’ Thomas Frank talks
Frank has led Brentford from the Championship to the Premier League and cemented the club’s position in the top flight. He’s not done it alone with a well respected team of backroom staff that the manager and Spurs appear keen to have follow him to his new club.
In an update on talks with Frank earlier today, Sky Sports suggested that while Spurs want Frank and he wants them, the details around the move are proving complicated. An update read: “Further talks are expected to take place this morning between Tottenham and Brentford over Thomas Frank.
“The clubs discussed compensation yesterday and those negotiations will continue today, but the deal is not agreed yet. Talks are also involving a number of backroom staff that Frank wants to take with him to Spurs Those are understood to include Justin Cochrane, who is also part of England’s coaching staff under Thomas Tuchel.”
Spurs look to deal Brentford another ‘big blow’
Losing Cochrane would be a setback for Brentford with the 43-year-old an early frontrunner to take on the Brentford role permanently following Frank’s departure. Instead, Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna appears to be a leading candidate to take over at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Commenting on those links of Cochrane moving to Spurs alongside Frank, Hounslow Herald journalist Sam Tabuteau wrote: “Justin Cochrane under discussion to follow Frank to Tottenham. Has links to Spurs and would be considered a big blow for Brentford given his reputation.”
He added: “Understand Frank ideally wants Justin Cochrane, Claus Norgaard, Keith Andrews and Manu Sotelo to join him at Tottenham. He also wants Brentford’s fitness coach - Tom Perryman has been with the club since 2014, so would presume it’s him Frank is after.”
Tottenham Hotspur have already seen first team coach Ryan Mason leave the club this summer to take on the managerial role at West Brom, which leaves at least one vacancy in the dugout. Meanwhile, Frank has also now been touted to go knocking at his former club with widespread reports of interest in Bryan Mbeumo.
Spurs have also previously been linked with a move for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. Meanwhile, should Cristian Romero leave the club and complete a move to La Liga, Nathan Collins has been touted as a replacement by the Hounslow Herald.
In other news, Daniel Levy and Tottenham should give Thomas Frank 87-goal striker welcome gift - opinion.
