Incoming Spurs boss Thomas Frank once shared his greatest strength and biggest weakness

Inevitably, Thomas Frank’s move to a traditional ‘Top Six’ side in the Premier League is near to coming true. Reigning Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint him as Ange Postecoglou’s successor in north London – and the Danish tactician once revealed what his biggest strengths and weaknesses are.

Frank was appointed by the Bees in October 2018 while they were plying their trade in the Championship – and their transformation, both on the pitch and behind the scenes, has been largely down to the 51-year-old’s influence on the club's top-to-bottom proceedings.

Very adaptable to different scenarios in the ever-changing English top flight, Frank’s people-first approach could be central to Spurs’ transition into a side fighting on multiple fronts – but what is he, in his own eyes, best at? And what needs improvement?

Frank Reveals His Biggest Strength and Weakness

‘That’s also my weakness because, often, the strength is the weakness'

A charismatic figure among Premier League managers, Frank – who served as Brentford’s assistant manager between December 2016 and October 2018 – has plenty to admire from an outsiders’ perspective, including his tactical flexibility. His perfectionist mindset, however, means that there is – as the old adage goes – always room for improvement.

Speaking on Jake Humphrey’s High Performance Podcast, Frank delivered an information-packed interview – from his ‘secret sauce’ to success to Brentford’s stance on recruitment. He also revealed what he believes is his biggest strength, which, in turn, could also be viewed as his main downfall.

“I think my biggest strength is that I am positive, energetic, open. That’s also my weakness because, often, the strength is the weakness. So, I don’t know if you can be too optimistic – but I think because I believe so much in the guys and the team.”

Always filled with belief that his side are capable of getting a result, the ex-Denmark Under-19 boss used the example of visiting Liverpool’s cauldron with high hopes. “We go to Anfield, and I believe we can win there,” Frank continued.

“And I get so down if we lost, even if I know the chances of losing are big – so that’s a downside to it.”

Reverting back to what makes him such an impressive Premier League manager, he also reflected on his do-it-all attitude which, in turn, breeds determination. That said, he insisted that taking breaks from being here, there and everywhere is crucial. He said:

“Another strength is that I want to do everything, which is good because it gives me the determination to achieve something. But I’ve also learned that I can’t do everything all the time, I needs breaks, I need to rest with everything.”

Fresh off the back of winning the Europa League in Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur are in good shape ahead of facing Europe’s elite in the Champions League – and with the addition of Frank’s know-how, who knows how far they could progress under the Dane?
