While Manchester United are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, they are also looking to add support behind the front line.
At the start of June, Manchester United announced they had finalised terms with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha’s transfer, valued at £62.5 million.
Cunha is anticipated to be Rúben Amorim’s inaugural summer acquisition and a pivotal component in United’s early squad overhaul, having penned a five-year contract with the club.
His arrival is viewed as a significant enhancement for an offence that has lacked scoring prowess and consistency. Cunha’s speed, astute positioning, and versatility across various attacking positions are expected to inject more depth and fluidity into United’s attack.
The transfer fee will be disbursed in three instalments: an initial £20.8 million upon deal completion, with the remainder paid over the subsequent year.
The 26-year-old is projected to assume the left-wing position in United’s attacking trio, surpassing Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine’s future at United seems uncertain, as he continues to attract interest from leading clubs both domestically and internationally.
Fernandes spotted with Premier League free agent
While United are fully focused on their summer transfer plans, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were able to add another trophy to their respective collections as Portugal triumphed in the Nations League final with a penalty shootout win after a 2-2 draw against Spain.
Amid all the celebrations, many noted that Fernandes was spending a lot of time with Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nelson Semedo, both on the night and the following day, rather than his teammate Dalot or close friend Cristiano Ronaldo.
This comes after the Portuguese right-back was linked with a possible move to United once his contract expires at the end of this month, with the move being touted as a “perfect welcome gift” to complement the arrival of Cunha.
Semedo, Wolves’ captain, has recently turned down a new four-year contract with the club, as he is open to finding a new adventure this summer.
Semedo would be a smart signing for United
Aside from being a player who would follow Cunha to United and potentially help him settle, Semedo would be a signing that could make considerable financial sense for the club.
With United’s budget limited and dependent on sales, Semedo would join the club as a free agent, which would allow United to secure depth on the right flank without incurring extra costs that could be spent elsewhere.

Semedo would also offer United much-needed experience across multiple fronts, with many young faces at the club and those who are so far struggling to adapt to Amorim’s system.
Semedo plays as a right wing-back at Wolves already, which is the position he would likely compete for if he was to sign for United, meaning he would have a more seamless integration into the position and could help others who are struggling.
Beyond this, at 31 with 165 Premier League appearances under his belt and a club captain at Wolves, he is also a player who can provide much-needed experience and expertise to the squad.
