United set Garnacho asking price amid'interest'from Premier League rivals

Manchester United have reportedly set £70m asking price for Alejandro Garnacho amid interest from Aston Villa.

The Red Devils are set to undergo a summer of change in their forward line, with Bryan Mbeumo said to be a target for the club following the addition of Matheus Cunha.

While several additions could be made in the team’s offensive ranks, a number of stars could depart Old Trafford, especially as the side are reportedly under severe finanical pressure.

Garnacho is one candidate who could soon be heading for the exit door following rumours of a growing rift with boss Ruben Amorim.

The Independent claim that Chelsea and Aston Villa are interested in signing the winger, but add that they face competition from Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen.

Will United have to settle for a lower price?

Chelsea have shown in the past that they are willing to spend significant sums on talented young players – Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez both cost in excess of £100m – but it remains to be seen if the Red Devils would sell to a potential rival.

It is difficult to see how Aston Villa would be able to afford Garnacho’s £70m price tag considering they may have to sell some of their own players in order to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

While Garnacho is only 20 years old and could improve significantly, he scored just six goals in the top flight last season, one short of the career high he managed in 2023-24.

Considering he has no track record of being able to produce consistently in the final third, interested parties may see investing £70m on him as far too risky an investment.

Could a deal with Napoli be struck?

One potential avenue of escape for Garnacho could be a transfer to Napoli, who were reported to have wanted to bring him to Naples in January.

The Serie A champions are unlikely to be able to afford the winger’s price tag, but perhaps a deal could be struck that would see striker Victor Osimhen head to Old Trafford.

Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli appears to be beyond repair, and with United in the market for a number nine, they may have the chance to agree an opportunistic deal that works for both teams.
