Where is Tijjani Reijnders? And why haven't Manchester City announced him?

The transfer window shut at 7pm on Tuesday and there is no sign of a deal announcement by Manchester City for one of the four players they were intending to sign despite him doing a medical days ago. What on earth has gone on?

Absolutely nothing to have any Blues worried. City have completed deals for four players in time for them to be registered for the Club World Cup including fellow recruits Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Marcus Bettenelli, they just haven't got round to all of the unveilings.

It has been an incredibly busy window for the club in negotiating four deals to fulfil their aim of getting the bulk of their incomings done before they head off to the United States this week for FIFA's summer tournament. On top of that, players have been kept busy by international fixtures that have limited their chances of either having holidays or speeding up transfers.

Reijnders flew to Manchester for his medical on Sunday between playing for the Netherlands on Saturday and Tuesday, while Cherki only arrived on Monday after playing for France in the Nations League third-place match. With City mindful of the game on Tuesday night and also keen to put out a comprehensive package of content for their new signings, timings have made it difficult to get everything over the line before the transfer window shut.

City fans can rest assured that all the important bits are done though, meaning there are no issues with any of the four players signed in the window joining Pep Guardiola's squad immediately. The final official announcement will likely come on Wednesday morning.

When the second transfer opens in under a week, City's main focus will be on departures. Kyle Walker will not travel to the United States as he looks to sort a move away, and Jack Grealish is in a similar boat; the decision to allow James McAtee to attend the Under-21 European Championship instead gives the green light for his departure.

City are determined to put a difficult year behind them and ensure it is seen as a blip in the bigger picture of the successful era that they believe can continue next season.

"What we are focusing on is the future, always. History is great and it's lovely and we celebrate it, and we enjoy it. But then the page flips and there's a new page to write, and the future is about what we can do together," chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said last month.

"How many more leagues we can keep winning, how many more Champions Leagues we can go on and win. How many Club World Cups we're going to go and win, FA Cups, Carabao Cups, Community Shields. It's writing the next chapter and the following chapter and Erling is at the heart of it.

"I think this commitment goes both ways. It's Erling telling the club and telling us he's betting on us, and it's us telling him we're betting on you, and we're betting for the next 10 years, you're going to take us to the next chapters with more trophies and incredible success.”
