Ruben Amorim must take ready-made replacement for key Man Utd star on pre-season tour for his full audition, it's time…

Ruben Amorim has the opportunity to see the full ability of one Manchester United talent and his potential role for him in the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils signed off their lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League season in May before Manchester United embarked on a two-match tour of Asia soon after.

Ruben Amorim returned from the post-season tour with the summer window opening in June and the United manager is expected to make major squad changes.

The 40-year-old former Sporting CP boss will see new arrivals at Old Trafford, with United already signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a £62.5m transfer fee.

Amorim will likely see a clearout of his United first-team squad as well, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho tipped to leave this summer.

The United head coach oversaw a tough start to life at Old Trafford after he arrived from Sporting CP in 2024, with the Red Devils finishing last season in 15th place.

Ruben Amorim must take a closer look at Harry Amass during Man Utd’s 2025-26 pre-season campaign in the summer

Manchester United will kick off their pre-season tour in July and Ruben Amorim will no doubt rotate his options to see the full extent of his squad options this summer.

Harry Amass has been knocking on the door of the United first team and the Red Devils talent is thought of highly at Old Trafford after his time in the youth academy.

The 18-year-old left-back made his professional debut for the club back in March after Amorim brought him off the bench in United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Harry Amass made five Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season and the United youngster featured twice for Amorim’s men in the Europa League.

The United defender has been seen as the ‘heir apparent’ to Luke Shaw’s role at Old Trafford and Amass has been growing in confidence with his first-team experience.

Amass also impressed United fans only last summer when he featured in the American leg of the Red Devils’ tour under former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

What could Ruben Amorim learn from a ‘full audition’ from Harry Amass during Man Utd’s pre-season tour this summer?

Patrick Dorgu has become Amorim’s preferred pick for the left wing-back role after United signed the Denmark full-back from Lecce for an initial fee worth £25m.

However, Harry Amass has stepped up when the former Sporting CP boss has used him and shown his adaptability to play in Amorim’s tactical system for United.

The United youth academy product is under contract with the Premier League club until 2027 and Amorim could really put Amass under the test on the pre-season tour.

If Amass is able to deliver with his performances, then the United manager should look at using him as his second-choice left wing-back option behind Dorgu.

However, Amorim could still be left yearning more from Amass if he does not fully impress and then there could be the option to loan him out to secure more first-team experience instead.
