Insider Makes Case For Hawks To Keep Trae Young Long-Term

Trae Young has spent his entire career with the Atlanta Hawks, but there have been rumors of him possibly leaving the team.

The tough truth is that the Hawks have never achieved their goals in the Eastern Conference, and something might need to change.

Because of that, there have been whispers of Young heading to a new team.

But speaking on his podcast, Zach Lowe said he hopes that doesn’t happen, because he likes Young with the Hawks and thinks his best days could be ahead of them.

“I kind of want the Hawks to keep Trae Young long-term. I don’t think there’s a great market for him, so I don’t think there’s a trade out there that completely just re-orients the franchise in a positive way. If I can extend him at a decent number, I like their team. I do think he changed his style of play a little bit. I think there’s hope for a Trae Young mid-career… metamorphosis is too strong of a word, but I could see in a year, it’s like, ‘Oh my god. The Hawks are up 2-1 in the second round and Trae Young is moving off the ball a little bit.’ I think that’s what I would do,” Lowe said, via The Ringer.

The first point Lowe made is a big one: the trade market might not be hungry for Young.

He averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and a league-high 11.6 assists last season, but there are still concerns about Young, and it sounds like most teams aren’t eager to sign him.

Beyond that, Lowe has seen some signs of Young changing his game and evolving.

He imagines that he could be an even better, more competitive, and more adaptable player in the next few years.

Lowe believes that Young hasn’t hit his peak and the Hawks shouldn’t give up on him yet.

However, if the next season is another disappointment for Atlanta, there is no doubt that many people will be saying Young should fly away.
