West Ham have an important summer ahead of them on the transfer front

West Ham turned to Graham Potter back in January. The former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man was brought in as their replace Julen Lopetegui. He penned a two-and-a-half year deal at the London Stadium but he has since struggled for results.

The Hammers are preparing for their first full season under his guidance. Potter has the chance to bring in some new signings this summer. He also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door over the next couple of months.

West Ham man Mohamed Kudus on Newcastle United’s radar

Newcastle United are ready to turn to West Ham ace Mohamed Kudus, according to Football Insider. The report suggests they have turned to the attacking midfielder after missing out on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. He has been on the books of his current club since 2023.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said: “He’s definitely somebody who is on Newcastle’s list. We’ve been talking about it for ages now, the research for this right-sided forward that they want to bring in. Kudus would fit the bill for that one, obviously left-footed, inverted, he can score goals and create goals. I think missing out on Mbeumo, is a big blow to Newcastle, because Eddie Howe had made him his top target.

“But with Mbeumo seemingly choosing Old Trafford over St James’ Park, they’re going to have to move down their lists to see who else they can potentially bring in. And for me, Kudus, could be a good natural fit for Newcastle, because look, West Ham are openly willing to let the Ghana international move on. And I think if Kudus was to move to a club, I think we’ll see the best of Kudus again.

“He was unbelievable in his first season at West Ham. I think he got 14 goals from midfield. And I think obviously, didn’t have the best season. Just the season gone there for West Ham, but overall, the team did struggle as well. So there’s definitely a top-class player in there.”

What now for Mohamed Kudus at West Ham?

Time will tell whether West Ham will cash in on Kudus amid attention from Newcastle. He was brought in two years ago to add more quality to their squad. The Ghana international, who has 42 caps under his belt, was a hit during his first campaign in England but struggled for goals last term.

Since joining the Hammers, the former Ajax man has scored 19 goals in 80 matches altogether, only five of which came last season. If a big money came in from elsewhere, Potter could use the funds to bring in more of his own type of player.

Kudus rose into the first-team at Nordsjælland as a teenager. His emergence in the Danish Superliga alerted the attention of Ajax and they swooped in for him back in 2020. He then spent three years in Amsterdam and scored 27 goals in 87 matches to earn his transfer over to West Ham.
