Fresh update emerges on Liverpool’s pursuit of Florian Wirtz

Liverpool’s summer transfer activity is showing no signs of slowing down and the pursuit of Florian Wirtz is now reaching a pivotal stage.

The Reds have already completed moves for Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi, but all eyes are now on Bayer Leverkusen’s star playmaker.

According to reports by Bild, Liverpool and Leverkusen are now significantly closer to finalising a deal.

A £113 million offer has already been tabled, but the Bundesliga champions are holding out for something closer to £126 million.

Still, optimism is growing on both sides that a compromise will be struck soon.

Florian Wirtz transfer deal nears finish line but experiences delay

The two clubs are said to be finalising the deal structure, including performance-based add-ons, which could push the final figure to a British record fee.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that a medical could be scheduled as early as next week, provided the final agreement is signed off.

However, there is one hitch. Due to the Club World Cup mini transfer window now closed at 7 pm on Tuesday, Liverpool now need to wait until June 16 to officially complete the paperwork, even if terms are agreed before then.

While that doesn’t block announcements, it delays the formal registration.

Still, Wirtz’s medical preparations suggest confidence on Liverpool’s part that things are moving in the right direction.

Wirtz, 22, is one of Europe’s brightest young attacking midfielders.

He notched 10 goals and 13 assists in the Bundesliga last season and even found the net for Germany during recent international fixtures.

His vision, dribbling and movement make him an ideal addition to Arne Slot’s attacking system.

If completed, the transfer will break Liverpool’s previous record.
