'Going to see some proper fireworks’: Ben Foster calls for £50m star join Newcastle United

Jack Grealish has a point to prove, and Ben Foster thinks he can prove it at Newcastle United.

The England international looks poised to leave Manchester City this summer, having fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

It has been reported that Manchester City want £50million for Grealish, four years after signing him for double that amount.

While Newcastle have been linked with Grealish, a move to Tyneside feels unlikely for that kind of money. There could be the possibility of a loan, but even that would come as a surprise.

Jack Grealish told he would thrive at Newcastle United

A deal for Jack Grealish does not make much financial sense, but the 29-year-old would be a hit in a black and white shirt according to former Premier League defender Paul Robinson.

He has spoken about Grealish’s future on the Football Fill-In on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, suggesting that the former Aston Villa playmaker should seek a switch to Newcastle United.

“He needs to move on now,” he said.

“He’s done fantastic for Man City but now it is down to him with his career where he wants to go. Does he want to keep sitting at Man City and not play or does he want to go out and enjoy his football again?

“We know what a good footballer he is. Over the years watching him, the way he has developed. He’s strong, he gets kicked and he gets back up. He’s got that mentality.

“I would love to see Jack go to a team like Newcastle because he would do really, really well.”

Foster replied: “I agree. He’s got a point to prove. It’s so clear and obvious that the manager wants rid of him. Wherever he goes, Grealish will have a massive point to prove, and I think we’re going to see some proper fireworks from him.”

Newcastle United told not to rule out Jack Grealish swoop

A permanent deal does not make much financial sense, while a loan swoop is not something that Newcastle United regularly do. Since the change of ownership at St James’ Park, Matt Targett and Lewis Hall are the only players who have arrived on temporary deals. In both instances, those deals became permanent.

However, TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey believes that a short-term deal for Grealish is something that Newcastle United should consider.

“From what I am told, the way Newcastle see him is that he is a hugely talented player,” he told Geordie Boot Boys.

“It is not really part of Newcastle’s process to sign players on loan, but if that is a way to get quality in then it is something they should consider – especially with them being back in the Champions League.

“Do they bring Grealish in for a year and then assess the situation? We have seen teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United sign players on loan. Why wouldn’t Newcastle do it? If that’s the only way to facilitate a deal then so be it.”
