Patriots Make Roster Move As Offseason Activities Near Conclusion

The New England Patriots on Tuesday announced they placed an offseason signee on [the reserve/retired list.](https://www.patriots.com/news/wes-schweitzer-placed-on-reserve-retired-list)

Veteran offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer, who signed as an unrestricted free agent on March 17, has retired.

Schweitzer was expected to compete for the starting left guard spot and provide depth at center behind Garrett Bradbury and Jared Wilson. The retirement means 2022 first-round pick Cole Strange is the current favorite to start at left guard.

The 31-year-old Schweitzer played nine seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2016-2019), Washington Commanders (2020-22) and New York Jets (2023-24). He appeared in 90 regular-season games with 62 starts — 28 at left guard, 28 at right guard and six at center.

A sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Schweitzer was limited to four games during the 2024 campaign due to injury.
