The Dallas Cowboys began mandatory minicamp this week, and despite ongoing contract negotiations with defensive superstar Micah Parsons, he made it clear that he would be in attendance—and he followed through on that promise.
“I will be there!” Parsons posted on June 4. “I haven’t missed a minicamp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook! I’m preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it’s in the owner’s hands. I’m ready to win a Super Bowl.”
That said, Parsons did not participate in any on-field drills. Instead, he spent most of the session on the sidelines, engaging in a lengthy conversation with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones—a discussion that reportedly lasted around 30 minutes, according to multiple sources at the team facility.
Jerry Jones is ultimately the decision-maker within the Cowboys organization, and no contract gets approved or finalized without his sign-off—a point Micah Parsons acknowledged during his post-practice press conference.
“I’m still hanging tight. I understand it’s up to (Jerry Jones), he gives the green light on everything. So hopefully something is done by next month.”

Since being drafted by Dallas, Micah Parsons has become one of the premier defensive players in the NFL. He’s now entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, which will pay him roughly $24 million in 2025.
However, Parsons is seeking a new contract that would make him one of—if not the—highest-paid pass rushers in the league.
That market was recently reset when Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension. According to Jerry Jones, negotiations with Parsons are progressing in the right direction.
