BREAKING Liverpool'agree deal'for Florian Wirtz with£126million deal now'imminent'

Liverpool have 'agreed a deal' to sign Florian Wirtz, with Arne Slot's side meeting Bayer Leverkusen's asking price.

The Premier League champions look set to wrap up the saga of the summer after coming to an agreement with the Bundesliga side, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Romano shared on X, formerly known as Twitter: "EXCLUSIVE: Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, HERE WE GO!

"Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for package reaching €150m add-ons included. Player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent. Wirtz set for medical and contract signing."

The Reds will have to wait six more days, officially, to sign Wirtz with the first transfer window of the summer slamming shut on Tuesday evening at 7pm - and it will reopen on Monday (June 16) - due to the inaugral Club World Cup.

With Liverpool not participating in the showpiece stateside they didn't face a race against the time to get the deal done, unlike Prem rivals Manchester City who are making the journey.

Leverkusen rejected two Liverpool bids, holding out for their £126m valuation. And Liverpool have now reportedly met that figure, but it remains unclear how the deal is structured.

Wirtz is now set for a medical and a contract signing - with Romano adding the German already had his heart set on the move and agreed to terms over two weeks ago.

Wirtz had been linked with both Manchester City and Bayern Munich, but has chosen the Reds.

The youngster's rise has been meteoric at the BayArena - and he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season last campaign.

"You have to give special players like Flo the possibility to do special things on the pitch," Xabi Alonso gushed when speaking about his star.

Wirtz, who won the European Under-21 Championship with his nation in 2021, has already amassed 29 caps for Germany's senior side, having scored six times for Die Mannschaft.

Former Germany boss and now Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said: "Florian is just a huge asset for this team with his care-free nature.

"He's simply an outstanding technician, loves to play, is very creative, has a good shot, runs hard and is quick. He's the full package."
