Former Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant has started work as Huddersfield Town boss – and pulled off an Old Trafford raid.
Manchester United fans really took to Lee Grant following his 2018 move from Stoke City.
The signing of a backup goalkeeper – and a third-choice one at that – rarely receives much fanfare.
United snapped up Grant as competition for David De Gea and Sergio Romero, but he failed to make a single Premier League appearance at Old Trafford.
Grant played just twice in all competitions but became popular with fans during his four-year stay at Old Trafford.
Grant retired in 2022 and joined Kieran McKenna’s coaching staff at Ipswich Town, before taking a managerial role of his own.

Lee Grant reacts to Paul McShane move
Grant has been appointed Huddersfield Town boss as he takes his first step into management.
The former goalkeeper will look to take the Terriers forward from League One, with promotion to the Championship the aim.

Grant has now formed his coaching staff – and has managed to raid United in the process.
Reports suggested Grant wanted to snap up Paul McShane from United, having crossed paths at Old Trafford.
Irishman McShane was a youngster at United as a player before returning as a player-coach back in 2021.
McShane was serving as a Professional Development Phase coach at United but he is now on the move to join Grant at Huddersfield.
The Terriers have confirmed on their official website that McShane is one of three coaches brought in to work alongside Grant.
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Jonathan Robinson have also joined Huddersfield, with Grant delighted to land all three.
“I am thrilled to welcome Marc, Paul, and Jonathan to Huddersfield Town – three exceptional professionals who join us as Assistant Coaches,” said Grant.
“Their diverse backgrounds, dedication, and commitment to excellence will be invaluable to us as we continue to grow and build something special at this club. Each brings a unique outlook and energy that aligns with our values and future aspirations.
“Their leadership and character will play a major role in amplifying the work that we do on and off the pitch, as we work towards success together. Manchester United could make coaching changes
McShane is not the only United coach moving on this summer.
David Hughes has left United in order to become the new manager of League Two side Newport County.
Hughes served as Under-21 assistant coach at Old Trafford, before being lured to South Wales.
Losing both Hughes and McShane means United will be eyeing changes to the coaching setup in the development phase.
That could be coaches being promoted through the ranks or new coaches being hired over the course of the summer.
Seeing Hughes and McShane leave is a blow for United, but should also be viewed as a compliment.
The pair have impressed enough with their coaching in the United ranks that they are being headhunted for other positions.
Grant and McShane will now hope to enjoy great success together at Huddersfield, with United fans cheering them on from afar.
