Falcons: Michael Penix Jr. gives emphatic statement about Drake London

Falcons football has arrived. While the headlines will read Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts, the stories should surround Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., and Michael Penix Jr., with this one pertaining to Penix’s connection with Drake London.

The 9 to 5 connection is going to feed families in Atlanta, and these comments from the Falcons southpaw slinger should get everyone fired up. When asked about whether London is under-appreciated across the NFL, Penix replied, “He won’t be after this year,” according to Tori McElhaney.

Good lord almighty, that is music to my ears. I love the confidence, and Penix is right. Drake London is already one of the best pass catchers in the league. He finished fourth in the NFL in receiving yards with 1,271 to go along with nine touchdowns.

In his third season with the Falcons, London blossomed into a legitimate star. What’s most exciting is that nearly a quarter of those 1,200+ yards came in the final two weeks with Penix under center. It ended on a high note, with London reeling in two touchdowns and 187 yards in the season finale. Their chemistry is evident.

Penix targeted London on 45% of his first reads, and London garnered six of Penix’s eight end zone targets. In all, the Falcons’ star wideout averaged 117 yards per game with Penix as the team’s signal caller.

The team will go through trials and tribulations because Penix is still pretty much a rookie, and the defense is filled with young talent, but I think all Falcons fans are warranted in their excitement about what the relationship of Michael Penix Jr. and Drake London can be in this league.
