Villa keeping tabs on target who could bolster Emery’s attacking options

Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United, as he’s expected to leave the club this summer.

The 20-year-old contributed 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 appearances across all competitions last season, as he continued to show progression and development after making his breakthrough at senior level in the previous two campaigns.

That form has also helped him earn eight caps for Argentina, and so if he can continue on this path, he looks to have a bright future ahead of him for club and country.

Despite those positives though, it seemingly hasn’t worked for him under Ruben Amorim at Man Utd as it’s reported that he’s up for sale this summer, and according to The Independent, Villa are now one of five clubs said to be monitoring his situation at Old Trafford, while it’s suggested that he could be valued at £70m by the Red Devils.

While that is likely to be miles off what Villa are prepared, and able, to pay to acquire the Argentine forward, time will tell if it will be drastically lowered if Utd wish to get Garnacho off their books this summer as part of their rebuild.

Further, given their struggles last season and with Garnacho raising eyebrows on and off the pitch at times with his inconsistency and comments, it has to be questioned who will be willing to pay that kind of fee for him, and particularly with Villa facing pressure to sell before June 30 to address our PSR and SCR concerns, it seems like we’re a long way off from being in a position to make a serious offer to our Premier League rivals.

Marcus Rashford’s exit after his loan stint with us leaves a void that must be filled in our attacking unit, but it’s hoped that we can keep hold of the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey this summer to continue our progress under Unai Emery.

In contrast, with doubts emerging over Leon Bailey’s future at Villa in particular, we may well be in the market for attacking reinforcements in the coming weeks and months, and time will tell if Garnacho emerges as a genuine possibility and realistic target to provide a solution, but there is confidence that Emery can be the coach to help him develop and take the next step in his career if he were to arrive.

It’s expected to be a busy summer for Villa with player sales needed in the more immediate future to help balance our books and ensure we’re complaint with the relevant financial rules, but once those issues are sorted, Emery, Monchi and our recruitment team will no doubt push hard to bring in signings to strengthen our squad and ensure we’re increasingly competitive moving forward.
