This summer no position is safe in the Manchester United squad, with Ruben Amorim’s rebuild set to cause a massive shake up.

It’s expected that around 14 players are going to depart the club with a mixture of deadweight, contracts ending and much-needed sales to generate funds for new signings.

The club are prioritising an upgrade of their attack which saw Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee fail to deliver consistency in front of goal, far from the prolific scorers United once had like Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, the club’s recruitment team are also looking to their goalkeeping department, looking at the likes of Lucas Chevalier and Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Andre Onana.

That said, the club aren’t neglecting other opportunities which are arising, such as the pursuit of Championship midfielder Hayden Hackney.

The Middlesborough defensive midfielder has had an impressive season, helping the side achieve tenth place, being a vital part of the side’s league campaign.

Hackney has been graced with the captain’s armband throughout the season, showing the status he holds in squad.

However, Give Me Sport has now revealed that the club captain is being allowed to leave this summer, with an expected price tag of £20 million.

United will no doubt be monitoring the situation as they’ve had Hayden Hackney on their radar for over a year now, first looking to the midfielder in January 2024, before renewing their interest this winter.

United aren’t alone in holding interest in the “impressive” 22-year-old though, with four other Premier League sides monitoring Hackney’s situation.

Tottenham Hotspur have been a constant in the mix for Hackney, however United and Spurs are now also joined by West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, with Middlesbrough now hoping for a bidding war.
