Fabrizio Romano broke the news all Liverpool fans have been waiting for late Thursday, the Reds finally had an agreement in place for German superstar Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen came to an agreement on a fee that could rise all the way up to €150 million with all add-oms included.
The player had already agreed personal terms with the Premier League champion weeks ago so a medical and signed contract should happen swiftly and efficiently for all parties involved.
**Historic deal for Liverpool**

If Wirtz hits all the incentives of this deal, it would become the third most expensive signing in the history of football behind only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe joining PSG.
He will become the most expensive acquisition in Premier League history as well, surpassing that of Enzo Fernandez joining Chelsea.

[Liverpool](https://rushthekop.com/liverpool-and-bayer-leverkusen-inch-closer-to-completing-mega-deal-01jx5e6ngvtm) went from one minor signing last year for less than €15 million to now forking over the biggest sum they have ever considered before.
This deal will dwarf what they almost paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo before he made the stunning 180 and chose to go to Chelsea instead.
The German side held firm in their valuation of the player and despite some extra negotiations, a deal was always going to happen after the player decided where he wanted to go and Manchester City pulled out of the race citing rocketing prices.
A perfect fit in Red

Wirtz will clearly take on one of the crucial creative roles when he arrives in England as [Arne Slot](https://rushthekop.com/winners-and-losers-from-arne-slot-s-debut-season-at-liverpool-01jw7yey1jd5) will be eager to use him as the new fulcrum of creativity with Trent Alexander-Arnold having departed this summer.
The Germany international follows his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong in joining Liverpool this summer after the Dutch wing-back was signed for a modest €35 million earlier in the window.
Wirtz recorded 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions during the 2024/25 season as the main spark for Xabi Alonso's side. During their trophy-laden 23/24 campaign, he was even better with 18 goals and 20 assists across the board.

He has spent half a decade with Leverkusen and has voiced a desire to face new challenges in the sport.
Joining the reigning champions of England as a record signing is certainly one way to push yourself in your career.
This is more than a statement signing for the Reds, it's the new measuring stick by which all transfers over the coming years will be matched against to determine their ranges of success.
Liverpool won't care, they got their man, and it took a record fee to do it.
